Translates business and analytical requirements into technical data and semantic modeling requirements
Collaborates with Data Engineering teams during data mapping and modeling activities to identify required source data, transformation logic, business rules, relationships, and data quality requirements
Defines Gold data requirements with Data Engineering to ensure data products are structured appropriately for downstream semantic modeling, reporting, analytics, and AI consumption
Validates Gold data against documented business requirements and source-system logic before incorporating data into governed semantic models
Designs, develops, deploys, and maintains enterprise semantic models within Microsoft Fabric
Develops and maintains DAX measures and standardized business calculations to ensure consistent calculation of enterprise metrics and key performance indicators
Adds business context to semantic models through clear naming conventions, descriptions, metadata, relationships, hierarchies, formatting, and documented business definitions
Develops reusable enterprise semantic models that can support multiple downstream reports, dashboards, applications, and analytical use cases rather than creating report-specific data solutions when enterprise reuse is appropriate
Designs semantic model architecture that allows specialized downstream semantic models to extend governed enterprise models for specific business or operational use cases
Optimizes semantic models for performance, scalability, usability, security, and maintainability
Implements appropriate data and semantic model security, including row-level security, object-level security, and other access-control requirements
Identifies data quality issues and works with Business Intelligence Analysts, Data Engineering, Data Stewards, and business stakeholders to determine appropriate resolution
Establishes and follows enterprise semantic modeling standards, naming conventions, documentation practices, reusable development patterns, and governance requirements
Documents data lineage, business definitions, transformation logic, model relationships, calculations, measures, and dependencies to improve transparency and maintainability
Uses Git-based source control and Azure DevOps to manage development work, version control, code reviews, pull requests, and solution deployment
Implements and follows CI/CD practices for semantic models and related Business Intelligence solutions across development, test, and production environments
Partners with Business Intelligence Analysts who use governed semantic models to develop Power BI dashboards, reports, and other business-facing analytical solutions
Partners with Data Scientists to ensure enterprise semantic models can appropriately support advanced analytics, machine learning, generative AI, and other AI-driven solutions
Evaluates emerging Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, semantic modeling, and analytics capabilities and recommends opportunities to improve the organization's Business Intelligence architecture
