Minimum Qualifications

  • Willingness and ability to perform the job duties
  • A valid State of Illinois driver’s license is required.

NOTE: You must provide your valid U.S. driver’s license at time of processing

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (snow, rain, hot weather)
  • Exposure to hazardous conditions or life-threatening situations, you will be required to work alone almost every workday
  • Exposure to hostile and potentially violent situations
  • Must wear a bullet proof vest
  • Interactions with citizens in field
  • You will be required to wear a bullet proof vest

Equipment

  • Standard office equipment (e.g., telephone, printer, photocopier, fax machine, calculator)
  • Computers and peripheral equipment (e.g., personal computer, computer terminals, hand-held computers)
  • License Plate Recognition (LPR) computer equipment
  • Hand tools (e.g., hammer, screwdriver, wrench, pilers)
  • Power tools (e.g., impact wrench)
  • Personal protective equipment (e.g., hard hat, shoes, glasses, gloves, vest, pads)
  • Safety devices or equipment (e.g., cones, barricades)
  • Specialized safety equipment (e.g. bullet-proof vests)
  • Communication equipment (e.g., two-way radio, dispatch equipment, multi-channel system)

Physical Requirements

  • Constant lifting (up to 35 lbs.) is required
  • Ability to access, retrieve, and place boots on vehicles
  • Ability to operate applicable hand tools, power tools, and equipment
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure

Selection Requirements

This position requires bidders and applicants to complete a written test/skills assessment(s).

Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after test results have been analyzed and compiled.

Bidders who receive a passing score on the test will be hired in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement.

Applicants who receive a passing score on the test will be hired in lottery/random order .

This position requires candidates to complete a Willing and Able questionnaire.

Candidates who affirmatively answer the Willing and Able questionnaire will be evaluated for further consideration.

Applicants who successfully pass the written test/skills assessment will need to complete a physical assessment.

Department

of Human Resource staff will review applications after the final posting date.
