About the Role
Saipem is seeking an Automation Engineer for the COMP2 Project in Qatar. You will be responsible for engineering design review, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up of automation systems including PLC, DCS, SCADA, ESD, and F&G.

- Review automation related deliverables (P&IDs, control logic, I/O lists, loop diagrams, cause & effect charts)
- Validate vendor documents for PLC, DCS, SCADA, ESD, F&G systems
- Perform loop checking, continuity, insulation, and calibration activities
- Execute commissioning of automation systems including PLC/DCS logic testing, cause & effect validation, alarm and interlock verification
- Conduct FAT, SAT, and performance testing
- Prepare and manage commissioning procedures, test reports, loop folders, and as built documentation
- Coordinate with engineering, construction, vendors, subcontractors, and client representatives
- Ensure adherence to HSE policies, participate in HAZOP, risk assessment, and safety reviews
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering / Instrumentation / Control Engineering / Automation Engineering
- 5–10+ years experience in EPC projects (Oil & Gas / Energy preferred)
- Hands on experience in commissioning stage is essential
- English (required)
- Strong knowledge of IEC, ISA, API standards

Purpose Of The Position
- As Automation Engineer, you will respond/report to the Commissioning Manager and be part of Commissioning Department within the COMP2 Project.
Responsibilities
- Engineering & Design Review: Review automation related deliverables (P&IDs, control logic, I/O lists, loop diagrams, cause & effect charts). Validate vendor documents for PLC, DCS, SCADA, ESD, F&G systems. Ensure alignment with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements
- Pre Commissioning Activities: Perform loop checking, continuity, insulation, and calibration activities. Verify installation of field instruments, control panels, and wiring. Execute functional checks before system energization. Coordinate with electrical and mechanical teams for system readiness.
- Commissioning & Start up: Execute commissioning of automation systems including PLC/DCS logic testing, cause & effect validation, alarm and interlock verification. Perform system integration tests and ensure all subsystems operate as per design. Support start up activities and ensure smooth transiti
- Testing & Validation: Conduct FAT, SAT, and performance testing. Verify I/O signals, control loops, and process sequences. Troubleshoot automation and instrumentation system issues.
- Documentation & Handover: Prepare and manage commissioning procedures, test reports and loop folders, as built documentation and dossiers. Ensure full system documentation prior to client handover.
- Coordination & Interface Management: Coordinate with engineering teams, construction teams, vendors and subcontractors, client representatives. Participate in technical meetings and provide progress reports.
- HSE & Compliance: Ensure adherence to HSE policies during commissioning execution. Participate in HAZOP, risk assessment, and safety reviews. Implement permit to work (PTW) and safe commissioning practices.
What are we looking for?
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering / Instrumentation / Control Engineering / Automation Engineering
- Experience: 5–10+ years experience in EPC projects (Oil & Gas / Energy preferred); Hands on experience in commissioning stage is essential
- Languages: English (required); additional languages are an asset.
- Technical Skills: Control systems: PLC, DCS, SCADA, ESD, F&G; Field instrumentation: pressure, flow, level, temperature systems; Communication protocols: Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, etc.; Testing & commissioning tools; Strong knowledge of IEC, ISA, API standards
