We’re looking for a passionate Associate Engineer to join our Overhead Lines Safety & Engineering Team!
You'll support the development, review, and sanctioning of Overhead Line (OHL) procedures, equipment, and techniques, helping to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of maintenance and construction activities across National Grid's transmission network. Working closely with operational teams, you'll provide technical guidance, identify opportunities for improvement, and help embed best practice and innovation into our approved ways of working.
This role is peripatetic , and we encourage a hybrid working approach, although we're happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help make this role work for you!
Support the development, review, trialling, and implementation of new OHL techniques, procedures, equipment, specialist access methods, and emerging technologies.
Provide technical support and guidance to operational teams on working at height techniques, new technologies, equipment, and procedural queries.
Review and assess technical files for new techniques and equipment, ensuring compliance with the AOBP Development & Sanction Process.
Monitor and audit operational teams to ensure compliance with the M6 Manual and National Grid standards for the management and operation of OHL equipment.
Attend OHL technical forums, contributing expertise, tracking actions, and driving their successful resolution.
Collaborate with third-party suppliers and contractors on the development, testing, and production of new equipment, while supporting budget management and cost control activities.
Provide operational and project support, including acting as the Principal Contractor representative under CDM regulations where required, and helping maintain emergency response readiness across the network.

Significant experience across a broad range of Overhead Line (OHL) procedures, standards, techniques, and operational documentation.
Strong knowledge of OHL construction, maintenance, and safe systems of work, with the ability to provide practical technical guidance and support.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information, engage stakeholders, and achieve positive outcomes.
Proven ability to influence, negotiate, and build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience assessing operational challenges and implementing practical, safe, and efficient solutions.
Experience managing project expenditure and supporting budget control activities, ensuring resources are used effectively and value for money is achieved.

£47,442 - £55,000 dependent on experience.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance, Job Requirement Car and competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
