Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior Developer to join our engineering team at Standard Chartered Bank. You will work on high-scale, multi-market applications that serve millions of customers globally, contributing to our digital banking transformation and delivering secure, performant, and maintainable software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development & Engineering • Design, develop, and maintain production-grade applications using Java and Spring Boot • Build robust full-stack applications with modern web technologies • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following SOLID principles and team conventions • Participate in architecture discussions and propose technical improvements • Conduct thorough code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members • Collaborate with backend and frontend engineers on API contracts and system integration
  • SDLC & DevOps • Follow and contribute to Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) best practices • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment • Work with DevOps teams to ensure development processes align with DevOps principles • Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and retrospectives • Monitor application performance and implement optimizations
  • Quality & Testing • Write comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests • Implement Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices • Ensure code quality through automated testing and quality gates • Participate in performance testing and optimization initiatives

Mandatory Requirements

  • Java Proficiency: Expert-level Java 8+ — primary technical requirement • Spring Framework: Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Data • Full-Stack Development: Experience with both backend and frontend technologies • SDLC Knowledge: Strong understanding of software development lifecycle • DevOps Experience: CI/CD, containerization, cloud platforms • Database Skills: SQL, NoSQL databases, ORM frameworks • Version Control: Git — branching strategies, PR workflows
  • Backend Technologies • Java 8+ with strong OOP and design pattern knowledge • Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Data JPA • RESTful API design and development • Microservices architecture and patterns • Database design and optimization (SQL/NoSQL) • Message queues and event-driven architecture
  • Frontend Technologies • JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3 • Modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue.js) • Responsive web design and cross-browser compatibility • RESTful API integration and state management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Banking, fintech, or financial services experience • Experience with distributed systems and high-availability architectures • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements • Familiarity with Standard Chartered's technology stack • Experience with API Gateway and service mesh technologies • Understanding of security frameworks and practices • Knowledge of data modeling and data management principles

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders • Collaborative mindset with experience working in cross-functional teams • Self-motivated with ability to work independently • Continuous learning mindset and adaptability to new technologies
  • Education • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field • Relevant certifications in Java, Spring, cloud platforms, or DevOps tools (preferred)
  • Qualification: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree • Experience: 7 to 12 years • Skill: Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Skills • Preference: Relevant Skills Certifications
