Role overview

Assistant Restaurant Manager role in the Food & Beverage department at King Street Townhouse, Manchester.

The role focuses on restaurant operations, team leadership and guest experience.

Operational leadership

  • Support restaurant operations across breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
  • Maintain a visible, hands-on presence throughout service.
  • Complete opening, service, closing procedures, shift handovers, reports and closing checks.
  • Review bookings, VIP guests, covers, table plans and staffing before each shift.
  • Monitor service flow, deliveries, breaks, communication and operational issues.

Guest experience

  • Deliver warm, polished hospitality and handle returning guests and special occasions with care.
  • Recommend food, wine, cocktails and non-alcoholic options and support appropriate upselling.
  • Maintain table presentation, water service, tray service, clearing standards and cleanliness.
  • Monitor satisfaction, lead service recovery, and record and follow up feedback and complaints.

People leadership

  • Lead by example, conduct daily briefings, assign roles and create a positive team culture.
  • Coach colleagues on guest interaction, service skills, presentation, clearing and product knowledge.
  • Support induction, competency sign-offs, refresher training, one-to-ones, reviews and succession planning.
  • Support recruitment through Greenhouse, including shortlisting, interview coordination and interviews.

Commercial and administrative duties

  • Support revenue growth, average spend, beverage sales, labour deployment, stock control and waste reduction.
  • Support stock orders, stocktakes, maintenance requests and supplier performance reviews.
  • Maintain rotas, payroll amendments, holiday information, training records and performance documentation.
  • Support seasonal menus, afternoon tea development, wine dinners and other guest events.

Essential requirements

  • Previous supervisory or management experience within hospitality.
  • Strong leadership, organisation and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead confidently in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment.
  • Food and beverage operations knowledge, guest-service focus and commercial awareness.
  • Ability to coach colleagues and work flexibly across mornings, evenings, weekends and busy periods.

Desirable qualifications and experience

  • Hotel restaurant or premium all-day dining experience is desirable.
  • Wine knowledge and a WSET qualification are desirable.
  • Food Hygiene, Health & Safety or licensing qualifications are desirable.

Safety and compliance

  • Ensure food safety procedures, HACCP, allergen controls and licensing requirements are followed.
  • Maintain compliance with fire safety, manual handling, COSHH and workplace safety requirements.
  • Ensure incidents, hazards and near misses are reported and restaurant areas remain safe and unobstructed.
