The role
We are looking for an Assistant Project Manager to bring structure, visibility and momentum to complex digital and technical work across the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Faculty of Science and Engineering at a time of significant digital development and transformation. You'll work across a diverse range of projects and initiatives, collaborating with academic, technical and professional services colleagues to help deliver digital solutions that support teaching, research and operational excellence.
This role offers the opportunity to apply project management skills in a practical and varied environment. Alongside supporting the delivery of digital projects and initiatives, you will play a key role in coordinating activities, managing priorities, supporting governance processes and helping to bring structure to a complex and evolving portfolio of work.
You will work across academics, technical specialists, central IT, governance teams and other stakeholders to clarify requirements, track actions, manage dependencies, surface risks and ensure that governance and readiness activities are considered alongside delivery.
This is a practical coordination role in a technical environment. It will suit someone who is organised, calm under pressure, confident working with ambiguity, and able to help turn informal requests into structured, prioritised and deliverable work.
What will you be doing?
You will coordinate small-to-medium digital and technical workstreams, helping to track milestones, decisions, risks, dependencies and next steps.
You will support governance and readiness activity, including coordination of new service documentation, Data Protection Impact Assessments and related approval routes. This will include helping to ensure that information security, data protection, service readiness and operational handover requirements are visible early and do not become late-stage blockers.
You will help maintain a clear view of active initiatives, priorities and progress, supporting the sequencing of work to reduce overload and conflicting demands.
You will act as a coordination point between academics, technical teams, central IT, governance colleagues and facilities where needed, helping to ensure that expectations around scope, timelines, responsibilities and support models are clearly recorded.
You will also support operational improvement by helping develop intake, triage and prioritisation processes, improving documentation, capturing decisions and reducing reliance on individual memory.
