Position Overview

The Assistant Buyer - Apparel supports the buying team with vendor relationships, purchase orders, product data, and inventory.

The role contributes to apparel assortment execution in a fast-paced, trend-driven environment.

The position is based in Chicago, Illinois, and is onsite rather than remote.

Vendor Communication

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with apparel vendors and suppliers.
  • Communicate about order status, product availability, delivery timelines, and issue resolution.

Orders and Inventory

  • Enter and track purchase orders and follow up on open orders, discrepancies, delays, and adjustments.
  • Assist with inventory levels so stock aligns with sales forecasts and customer demand.

Product Data and Communication

  • Maintain accurate product information and organize apparel SKU databases.
  • Handle high-volume email communications with vendors and internal teams.

Analysis and Collaboration

  • Analyze sales performance, trend data, and vendor metrics to support product selection and buying decisions.
  • Work with allocation, planning, logistics, and other internal teams to support product delivery and inventory flow.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A bachelor's degree in Fashion Merchandising, Business, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.
  • The role seeks 1-3 years of experience in buying, merchandising, product coordination, or vendor management, preferably in apparel or fashion.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, communication, multitasking, and deadline management are required.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency is required; retail systems or ERP experience is a plus.
