About the organization

The Canada Infrastructure Bank invests in new infrastructure projects and works with public, Indigenous, and private-sector partners across Canada.

The role reports to the Manager, Information Technology and is based in Toronto.

Role overview

The Analyst, Business Systems role connects business strategy, data engineering, analytics, and platform architecture.

The role translates business requirements into scalable, governed, and trusted Microsoft Fabric data products.

Business and requirements analysis

  • Translate business needs into epics, features, user stories, functional and non-functional requirements, and acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain business and data requirements documentation, process flows, use cases, business glossaries, and metric definitions.

Microsoft Fabric data architecture

  • Contribute to dimensional modeling and enterprise data warehouse design, including subject-area modeling and historical data handling.
  • Assess data grain, aggregation, retention, archival, partitioning, summarization, and query-performance considerations.
  • Evaluate downstream reporting impacts of modeling decisions.
  • Document source-to-target mappings, transformation logic, business rules, data lineage, and traceability across Fabric workloads.

Fabric and Power BI skills

  • Work with Power BI semantic models and self-service enablement patterns in Microsoft Fabric.
  • Define semantic-layer requirements that balance flexibility and control.
  • Document KPI logic, calculation rules, business-friendly data definitions, reporting usage, and limitations.
  • Understand Direct Lake and Import trade-offs and support Power BI validation and user acceptance testing.

Governance and controls

  • Ensure self-service reporting follows enterprise data governance, security, privacy, access, and metric consistency standards.
  • Partner with governance teams to maintain business glossaries and metadata and support discoverability through Microsoft Purview.

Required qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in information systems, business, finance, computer science, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Two to four years of experience in a similar role and in data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse or warehouse, Data Factory pipelines, Spark notebooks, and OneLake architecture.
  • Strong proficiency in DAX, Power Query M, SQL, and data modeling concepts.
  • Good understanding of ETL processes, data warehousing, Azure services, and Power BI governance and security.
  • Knowledge of AI and machine learning architectures, generative AI, LLMs, vector databases, and MLOps or LLMOps practices.

Additional qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Purview is an asset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform is an asset.
  • Bilingual English-French capability is an asset.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD for data pipelines using Azure DevOps or Git is expected.
