Youth Detached Worker

This is a permanent part-time post (15hours per week) and an exciting opportunity to work directly with young people through Swansea’s detached and outreach youth work provision.

The successful candidate will support the delivery of a wide range of detached, street-based and mobile youth work sessions across Swansea. This will include engaging with young people in their communities, supporting activities, building positive relationships and contributing to informal learning opportunities.

A key part of this role will involve working from a mobile youth provision (youth bus), helping deliver youth work across different communities and supporting a consistent and visible presence. You will play an important role in engaging young people who may not access more traditional services and supporting them to develop confidence, skills and positive outcomes.

The role will be undertaken under the direction and supervision of the Youth Outreach Development Officer and Senior Youth Detached Worker. You will support delivery as part of a team, contributing to a safe, consistent and youth-centred approach to practice.

The role will include evening and occasional weekend work to meet the needs of young people.

Our ideal candidate will be approachable, reliable and committed to working with young people, with the ability to build positive relationships within community settings.

You will have experience of working with young people and be confident in supporting the delivery of activities within outreach and detached environments. You will be able to work effectively as part of a team, follow guidance and respond appropriately to the needs of young people.

You should hold the Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice or above, or be willing to work towards this qualification, demonstrating a commitment to developing your youth work skills and practice.

You must have strong communication skills, an understanding of the issues affecting young people, and the ability to contribute to safe, inclusive and supportive environments.

The salary for the position is Grade 4 £26,427 - £26,847 per annum pro rata.
