Role overview

Join the Service Department as Workshop Controller at the Trafford Park site.

The role is responsible for the profitable and efficient operation of the commercial vehicle workshop.

The position reports to the Business Manager and follows a 4 on 4 off day shift pattern from 6am to 6pm.

Responsibilities

  • Maximise productive staff utilisation and ensure Genuine Volvo Service process steps are followed.
  • Maintain quality standards, minimise rectification work, and ensure efficient processing under company quality and health and safety standards.
  • Keep the workshop fully loaded while controlling labour efficiency and productivity.
  • Identify jobs exceeding allocated times and address them with technicians or workshop supervisors.
  • Control daily workshop operations and liaise with supervisors and the Business Manager.
  • Manage complex or potentially contentious job handovers to secure customer agreement.
  • Manage Service Department performance against KPI targets and keep productive staff aware of workload and Volvo Standard Times.

Qualifications and experience

  • Previous supervisory or managerial experience, preferably in the commercial vehicle industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Full knowledge of VOSA requirements and the MOT testers manual.
  • Understanding of Operators Licence Laws and Regulations.
  • Technical qualification equivalent to City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Technology or Heavy Vehicle technology.
  • Ability to maintain technical knowledge, work under pressure, and use initiative.
  • Computer literacy and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
