The Wire Harness Design Engineer II develops critical power, digital, analog, and RF interconnects for aerospace systems.
The role owns harness designs from initial specifications through integration and testing.
The engineer collaborates with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and harness assembly technicians.
Key responsibilities
- Design high-complexity wire harnesses for space and airborne systems and associated ground support equipment.
- Adhere to harness design requirements and workmanship standards.
- Select parts based on reliability, availability, and manufacturability.
- Address EMI and EMC compliance, radiation tolerance, and space charging considerations.
- Support integration, testing, and troubleshooting at box, subsystem, and platform levels.
- Improve wire harness standards and processes.
- Coordinate with suppliers and contract manufacturers on supply, quality, and schedule.
- Present solutions in design reviews and provide interconnect subject matter expertise.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- At least 2 years of relevant industry or university research experience.
- Familiarity with Capital Essentials or Zuken E3 harness design tools.
- Understanding of engineering principles, wire routing, controlled impedance, shielding, and EMC.
- Ability to analyze and test harness designs for standards, safety, and performance compliance.
- Awareness of high-reliability connectors and wire types.
- Accurate design documentation and strong written and spoken communication.
- Applicants must meet applicable U.S. space technology export authorization requirements.
Preferred experience
- Experience designing for aerospace environments.
- Conceptual understanding of harness assembly and tooling.
