As a Visual Arts Instructor, you will teach a variety of visual arts based on your expertise, including clay, drawing, painting, ceramics, cartooning, printmaking, fibre arts, and two -and-three-dimensional art.
Programs will be delivered to preschoolers, children, youth, and adults.
Under supervision, you will be responsible for leading, planning and instructing visual arts programs that support participants in developing their skills and knowledge.
Primary duties include:
- Teach specific skills to participants through progressive development and sharing of knowledge.
- Develop course outlines, lesson plans, and resources based on named learning goals and outcomes.
- Provide encouragement and coaching to other instructors, when assigned, and provide recommendations on enhancing performance and program delivery (Level 2 Instructors only).
- Ensure the safety of participants.
- Prepare and maintain equipment, supplies, and program space.
- Maintain program records and assist with program evaluation.
- Provide a high degree of customer service.
- An extensive personal base of resource material in the field is essential.
- Recognition as an authority in your field by an institution, peers and/or public.
- Ability to develop a curriculum-based program.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Level 1 Instructors must have the following qualifications: At least 1 year of instructional experience in visual arts is required. At least 2 years of post-secondary education in visual arts, or a related field.

- Level 2 Instructors must have the following qualifications: A completed degree in visual arts or a related field is required. At least 3 years of instructional experience in visual arts is required.

- Practicing artist with portfolio will be required to bring sample artworks.
- Strong communication skills along with demonstrated initiative, planning, and organizational skills.
- Sound judgment in safety standards and well-developed customer service skills.
- Current Intermediate First Aid certification (equivalent to Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level "C", and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is required prior to offer of employment.
