Base Salary: $250,000-$300,000 based on experience and qualifications, plus production

Veterinary Specialty Hospital - North County is seeking a board-certified or residency-trained Veterinary Neurologist with a strong interest and comfort level in neurosurgery to join our established Neurology service in San Marcos, California.
This is an opportunity to join an experienced team of Neurologists and Neurosurgeons while practicing within one of the region's most comprehensive specialty referral environments. Our Neurology service manages both medical neurology and neurosurgical cases, creating an opportunity for a clinician who enjoys the full spectrum of neurologic care—from advanced diagnostics and medical management through surgical intervention.
VSH North County is also preparing to move into a new 35,000-square-foot hospital in early 2027. The expanded facility will create additional clinical capacity and provide an exciting opportunity for our Neurology and Neurosurgery team to help shape the service's future.
The Neurology Opportunity
VSH North County's Neurology team currently includes two board-certified Veterinary Neurologists & Neurosurgeons, with expertise spanning neuroimaging, medical neurology, and advanced neurosurgical procedures. The service performs procedures including craniotomy, ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement, dorsal laminectomy, hemilaminectomy, spinal stabilization, and ventral slot procedures.
The incoming neurologist will work closely with the existing Neurology team as well as Surgery, Internal Medicine, Emergency & Critical Care, Oncology, Diagnostic Imaging, and other specialty services. This multidisciplinary structure is particularly valuable for neurologic patients who require coordinated medical, surgical, and critical care.
Advanced diagnostics—including MRI, CT, myelography, CSF analysis, EEG/EMG, nerve conduction studies, and advanced imaging—support comprehensive neurologic workups and surgical planning. The hospital's surgical capabilities and experienced support teams allow neurologists with an interest in surgery to manage patients from initial diagnosis through postoperative care.

In your day-to-day, you will: * Diagnose and manage patients with complex neurologic and neuromuscular disorders * Perform and participate in neurosurgical procedures appropriate to your training and interests * Collaborate with the existing Neurology and Neurosurgery team * Partner with Surgery, Internal Medicine, ECC, Oncology, and Diagnostic Imaging on complex cases * Utilize advanced MRI, CT, CSF, electrophysiology, and other diagnostic modalities * Develop individualized medical and surgical treatment plans * Provide perioperative and postoperative neurologic care * Build relationships with referring veterinarians and serve as a trusted neurologic resource * Participate in teaching and mentorship of interns, residents, students, and veterinary team members * Help contribute to the continued development of Neurology and Neurosurgery as the hospital transitions to its new facility * Pursue clinical interests, research, and professional development through the broader Ethos network
What You Bring * DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for California licensure * Board certification in Veterinary Neurology or completion of a recognized neurology residency with board eligibility * Comfort and demonstrated interest in neurosurgery is required * Strong clinical, surgical, and communication skills * A collaborative approach to multidisciplinary medicine * Commitment to exceptional patient care and referring veterinarian relationships * Interest in teaching, mentorship, and continued professional development * A desire to contribute to the continued growth of an established Neurology and Neurosurgery service
