Role Overview
A Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary care teams in providing safe, compassionate, and efficient care to animals.
The position may suit candidates with experience in veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, pet-care facilities, shelters, farms, or related animal-care environments.
Clinical and Animal Care
- Assist veterinarians with examinations, routine procedures, vaccinations, sample collection, diagnostics, medications, treatments, wound care, and post-procedure recovery.
- Handle, restrain, position, and transfer animals safely under the direction of qualified veterinary professionals.
- Monitor animals for changes in behavior, appetite, activity, or general condition and report concerns promptly.
- Provide food, water, exercise, grooming support, and general care for hospitalized or boarding animals.
Facility and Equipment Support
- Prepare examination rooms, treatment areas, cages, kennels, equipment, surgical instruments, and medical supplies.
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize equipment and clinical areas according to established procedures.
- Maintain hygiene, infection-control, and animal-housing standards throughout the facility.
