Your Opportunity:

The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals, treating over 700,000 patients annually. As part of a Level 1 Trauma Center, the Adult Operative Services portfolio provides surgical access to specialties such as Neurosurgery, OHNS, Urology, General Surgery, Orthopedic Trauma, Plastics, Burns, Spine, iMRI, and Solid Organ Transplant Services. This position is within the Short Stay Surgery Unit, where the Unit Clerk plays a vital role in supporting scheduled adult surgical patients through the peri-operative continuum. As a primary point of contact for patients and families, you will have a direct impact on patient experience. Key Responsibilities: Perform clerical duties including reception, patient registration, coordinating patient flow, scheduling diagnostics, and liaising with the multidisciplinary team. Provide clear, compassionate communication to patients and families in a fast-paced environment. Manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism. Physical & Role Requirements: This is a highly interactive, patient-facing role requiring frequent verbal communication with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary surgical care team, and the ability to accurately manage multiple concurrent tasks (registration, scheduling, phones, chart preparation) in a fast-paced, high-volume unit. The role requires regular mobility throughout the unit — including frequent walking between reception, patient bays, and workstations — for the duration of the shift.

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
