Trauma Informed Peer Services Supervisor

Trauma Informed Peer Services Supervisor will provide supervision and support to certified peer staff (CPS, CR5, CHW, CAPS, etc.) and Recovery Advocates with lived experience assigned to the Trauma Informed Peer Specialty program. This position will also collaborate with other community partners to provide cohesive peer support across DBHIDS/PCCI initiatives. The TIPS Supervisor will provide trauma informed leadership, coordination, and education to provide greater access to behavioral health support, guidance, and linkages to culturally appropriate care on a community level. This position will commit to community advocacy while ensuring a safe and healthy environment for the team and community members. This position will be focused on communities in Philadelphia at risk of experiencing multiple incidents of trauma; specifically: (I) communities impacted by high rates of gun violence, and (2) immigrant and refugee communities. This position may work more than 50% out of the office and in various culturally diverse communities.

This is a grant-funded position through December 2027. Additional funding will be sought to extend the position, but funding cannot be guaranteed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Build and maintain a strong functional team through effective training, performance management, coaching, and team building.

Provide trauma informed leadership and serve as a health and wellness consultant to the team.

Provide support supervision to diverse certified peer staff and Recovery Advocates (RAs) with lived experience involved in the TIPS project.

Participate in DBHIDS activities in the community to connect with community members and continue to grow an understanding of the needs of the community.

Identify priority issues and raise concerns for the manager to address.

Assist teams with identifying natural supports, recovery, and wellness related resources within the community.

Provide guidance to certified peer staff and RAs providing peer support services and helping the community in accessing culturally appropriate behavioral health resources, linkages, and support.

Provide regular peer supervision and debriefs to certified peer staff and RAs assigned to positions.

Develop wellness and safety plans and protocols for TIPS project.

Develop peer skills for disclosing personal experience with the goals of inspiring hope, developing trust and rapport, and fostering strengths.

Model self-care, appropriate boundaries, and an authentic belief in recovery through language, attitude, and actions.

Practice effective listening that is non-judgmental and empathic while balancing the need to hold peer support specialists accountable for their job duties.

Invite ongoing feedback on personal and staff practice of cultural humility.

Define and model advocacy for peer support specialists, including advocating for organizational changes.

Negotiate reasonable work accommodation when appropriate.

Provide time and support for peer support specialists to connect with and participate in the greater peer movement and the peer workforce profession.

Build trust and develop the integrity of the supervisory relationship with peer support specialists through honest and respectful communication about strengths and areas that need improvement.

Collaboratively assess the supervisee's strengths and areas for continued professional development.

Strengthen the practice of peer support by promoting its value.

Attend internal and community meetings and events.

Provide data collection and monthly written reports.

Skills Required:

Knowledgeable of trauma informed systems of care related to gun violence, and immigrant and refugee communities.

Knowledgeable of behavioral health systems transformation, peer culture in Philadelphia, and the Peer Support Toolkit.

Understanding of the Philadelphia Transformation Practice Guidelines for Recovery and Resilience Oriented Behavioral Health Services.

Knowledgeable of core peer roles and values identified in:

National Ethical Guidelines and Practice Standards/National Practice Guidelines for Peer Supporters. International Association of Peer Supporters (iNAPS).

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Core Competencies for Peer Workers in Behavioral Health Services.

Excellent supervisory skills, including ability to motivate and inspire staff.

Ability to foster collaboration, build consensus and inspire a shared vision.

Ability to work well with diverse groups of individuals and organizations.

Ability to interact with staff and people at all levels in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of professionalism.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Able to work well independently and within a team.

Understands and executes duties with minimal direction.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Zoom.

Ability to administer NARCAN when needed.

Possess a working knowledge of behavioral health resources in Philadelphia.

Education and Experience:

Master of Social Work, or related field

Four (4) years of experience in behavioral health or related field

Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience required

Familiarity with Philadelphia behavioral health system, continuum, and levels of care.

Experience working in the area of trauma.

Completed the CPS Supervisor Training

Completed Narcan Training

Bilingual preferred (i.e., Spanish, Chinese- all dialects, Vietnamese, Russian, Arabic, Haitian Creole)

OR any equivalent combination of educational and experience determined to be acceptable.

Physical Demands :

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environment conditions required of the position.

Sit/Stand for at least one hour at a time.

Lift up to 25pounds

Able to operate office equipment.

Must be able to walk in and around communities.

Essential Functions:

Transportation or able to navigate public transportation and Philadelphia neighborhoods.

Ability to work a flexible work schedule that may require occasional weekend and evening work at various locations citywide
