Responsibilities
- Responsible for daily operations of the department, including assigning work, determining priorities, and ensuring departmental coverage.
- Responsible for the supervision, coaching, monitoring, training, and performance management of assigned staff.
- Develop policies and procedures for Transcription department.
- Ensure accurate billing of Anatomic Pathology tests.
- Gather statistical data for pathologist’s variable compensation program and monthly departmental operations reports.
- Identify and resolve all employee/client issues.
- Perform QC of transcription staff.
- Perform transcription duties as needed to ensure timely completion of work.
- Other duties as assigned. This is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities, but rather a general description of work performed by the position.
Qualifications
- Required Work Experience:
- Three (3) to six (6) years experience as a Medical Transcriptionist.
- Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Sitting for long periods of time.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. (Typing)
- Knowledge:
- Capable of performing all the duties/responsibilities of a Transcriptionist II.
- Understanding of the compliance policies relating to test ordering, test reporting, add-on tests, TIQ/TNRP, reflex tests and custom panels.
- Knowledge of Anatomic Pathology billing (CPT codes, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
- Skills:
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) necessary to effectively interact with customers and co-workers.
- Ability to foster a positive and productive work environment by building, leading and motivating the team.
- Must be detail-oriented, have the ability to work independently, establish work priorities and to handle several tasks simultaneously for maximum department efficiency.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors, co-workers and clients.
- Communication skills necessary to handle telephone inquiries from clients.
- Ability to deal with client information in a confidential manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
- Leads with metrics and tools – uses data, metrics and operational tools to assess performance, prioritize work, and improve team goals and results.
- Education
- Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
- Licenses and Certifications
- Medical Transcription Training program (Preferred)
