Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and evaluate Fire Service crews and Training Lieutenants
- Assist in formulation and delivery of training procedures and perform in service training of firefighters
- Conduct safety briefings to ensure dissemination of pertinent information

- Assist in development and planning of emergency response
- Support Battalion Chief in planning, organizing, and implementing department goals

- Drive, operate, and inspect Fire Department vehicles and equipment

Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two years professional experience as a Company Officer
- Florida Firefighter II certification
- Florida State Fire Instructor I Certificate
- Florida State Engineers Certification (within 12 months of hire)
- Florida State Fire Officer I Certificate
- Current Florida Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- 16 Hour EVOC course approved by State of Florida
- Valid Florida Driver License

General Description of Duties
- Under general direction, perform responsible management work coordinating training policies and procedures of subordinate Fire personnel to ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and State and National Standards.
- Function at mid level management, overseeing and ensuring efficiency and effectiveness of training operations.
- Work with considerable independence in the delivery of fire service training to ensure safety of fire crews and the public.
Essential Job Functions
- Supervise, train, and evaluate Fire Service crews and Training Lieutenants according to established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in formulation and delivery of training procedures and perform in service training of Fire Fighters.
- Conduct safety briefings to ensure dissemination of pertinent information.
- Enforce departmental rules, policies, and regulations.
- Assist in development and planning of emergency response.
- Support Battalion Chief in planning, organizing, and implementing department goals.
- Communicate with dispatch, fire officers, and related personnel for accurate dissemination of information.
- Drive, operate, and inspect Fire Department vehicles; operate, utilize, and inspect equipment and gear; operate, test, and inspect pumps and hydrants.
- Ensure repair, readiness, and accessibility of all fire rescue equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two years professional experience as a Company Officer.
- Florida Firefighter II certification.
- Florida State Fire Instructor I Certificate.
- Florida State Engineers Certification (within 12 months of initial hire).
- Florida State Fire Officer I Certificate.
- Current Florida Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
- Basic Life Support by American Heart Association, American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuer, or equivalent.
- 16 Hour EVOC course approved by State of Florida.
- Valid Florida Driver License.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to effectively train and manage staff in fire suppression, EMS, and hazardous materials control.
- Thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of fire rescue and paramedic work.
- Thorough knowledge of pre established County and State policies and procedures.
- Ability to supervise and provide safe First Aid/medical rescue methods.
- Ability to understand, follow, direct, and supervise written and oral instructions.
- Ability to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in customer relations; ability to deal diplomatically with irate, violent, or frantic individuals.
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
- Skill in analytically observing and objectively reporting routine and non routine activities.
- Ability to read, update, and maintain various records and files.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment and various software applications.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Physical Demands
- Very heavy work: 100 pounds lifting; frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
- Good eyesight for production or safety.
- Physical agility in climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, crawling, and reaching.
- Clear vision at distances of 20 inches or less.
Environmental Factors
- Exposure to extreme heat and adverse or hazardous atmospheres, as well as adverse weather conditions.
