Role overview

Parsons is seeking a Traffic Engineer for its project site team in Doha, Qatar.

The role manages traffic control and traffic management systems to maintain safe traffic flow around construction activities and minimize disruption.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage on-site movement of vehicles, pedestrians, and construction equipment.
  • Develop and implement traffic management plans for construction sites.
  • Design and oversee temporary traffic control devices such as signs, barriers, and traffic signals.
  • Coordinate traffic permits and approvals with local authorities and stakeholders.
  • Monitor traffic flow, respond to incidents, and resolve disruptions quickly.
  • Inspect traffic measures and ensure they remain properly implemented and maintained.
  • Prepare and review traffic control layouts and analyze traffic patterns.
  • Coordinate lane closures, detours, and disruptions with construction teams.
  • Communicate with contractors, authorities, and stakeholders about traffic management.
  • Ensure compliance with traffic regulations, work zone safety, and environmental standards.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • 10 years of professional traffic engineering experience focused on construction-site traffic management.
  • Expertise in construction traffic plans, traffic control layouts, and temporary traffic controls.
  • Knowledge of traffic regulations, work zone safety, and environmental protection standards.
  • Experience coordinating traffic permits and approvals with authorities and regulatory agencies.
  • Fluent written and spoken English with strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and experience leading traffic management on large construction projects.
  • Computer skills, relevant site management and reporting software proficiency, and MME certification.

Desired skills

  • Proficiency in SYNCHRO, VISSIM, or similar traffic engineering software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience managing traffic operations in urban or high-traffic areas.
  • Knowledge of smart city and sustainable transportation solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple site traffic concerns under pressure.
  • Leadership of traffic officers and inspectors.
  • Familiarity with construction equipment routing in high-traffic areas.
