Therapy Assistant

The Alberta Children’s Hospital is a warm & vibrant workplace, serving children & their families in inpatient units & ambulatory clinics. Within ACH ambulatory services, this Therapy Assistant (TA) position works primarily under the direction of a Speech-Language Pathologist and Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy to meet patient’s rehabilitation & therapeutic goals. You will contribute to effective & efficient rehabilitation services including direct & indirect client care in this specialized/tertiary care context with primary support to feeding & communication. Representative duties may include implementation of educational programming, developmental play, early language development, articulation, feeding & activities of daily living programs. The TA carries out both individual & group treatment programs utilizing a holistic, family centered approach. As the successful candidate, you will exhibit excellent communication skills & effective interpersonal skills, demonstrate the ability to work independently & collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team & be highly organized. You will demonstrate initiative, adaptability & flexibility to meet varying clinical & operational needs in accordance with the Health Professions Act. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal & verbal/written communication skills. Supervision of the clinical practice of students is required. You will receive guidance, mentoring & leadership appropriate to your level of experience. You may be required to work across other settings within the site wide model based on identified need & priority within the site, including inpatient units, & outpatient treatment areas. As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.
