Overview

**Job Scope:** The Veterinary Reproduction Specialist is responsible for **managing, executing, and optimizing all advanced reproductive technologies** on the sheep farm, including **Artificial Insemination, Embryo Transfer, IVF, semen collection, cryopreservation, and reproductive health programs**.

The role ensures **genetic improvement**, **higher lambing rates**, and **scientific breeding protocols** aligned with international standards.

**Specialization:** Artificial Insemination (AI), Embryo Transfer (ET), In‑Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

A. Artificial Insemination (AI)

  • Perform **synchronized AI programs** using fresh, chilled, or frozen semen.
  • Develop **estrus synchronization protocols** using CIDR, PGF2α, GnRH, etc.
  • Conduct **ultrasound pregnancy diagnosis** at appropriate intervals.
  • Maintain semen quality control: motility, morphology, concentration.

B. Embryo Transfer (ET)

  • Superovulation of donor ewes using FSH/eCG protocols.
  • Surgical or non‑surgical embryo collection.
  • Embryo grading, washing, and preparation for transfer.
  • Transfer of fresh or frozen embryos into synchronized recipients.
  • Maintain embryo records, donor performance, and success rates.

C. In‑Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

  • Oocyte collection via laparoscopic ovum pick‑up (LOPU).
  • Oocyte maturation, fertilization, and embryo culture in laboratory conditions.
  • Manage IVF laboratory equipment: incubators, laminar flow hoods, microscopes.
  • Cryopreservation and thawing of IVF embryos.
  • Improve IVF success rates through protocol optimization.

D. Reproductive Health & Surgery

  • Perform reproductive surgeries: C‑sections, LOPU, uterine repairs.
  • Diagnose and treat reproductive disorders: metritis, dystocia, ovarian cysts.
  • Manage neonatal care for high‑value lambs.
  • Implement herd health plans including vaccinations and parasite control.

E. Genetic Improvement & Data Management

  • Develop long‑term **genetic improvement programs** for flock enhancement.
  • Maintain digital records of donors, recipients, semen batches, and embryo logs.
  • Analyze reproductive KPIs: conception rate, embryo yield, lambing %, IVF success.
  • Recommend genetic selection strategies for rams and ewes.

F. Farm Operations & Training

  • Train farm staff on heat detection, handling, hygiene, and AI support tasks.
  • Ensure strict biosecurity and laboratory hygiene protocols.
  • Coordinate with nutritionists to optimize reproductive performance.
  • Prepare monthly and annual reproductive performance reports.

Education

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent.
  • Postgraduate specialization in **Theriogenology / Reproductive Biotechnology** preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum **5–10 years**’ experience in sheep/goat reproduction.
  • Proven expertise in **AI, ET, IVF, semen processing, and reproductive surgery**.
  • Experience in Middle East or large‑scale commercial farms is an advantage.

Technical Skills

  • Laparoscopic AI and LOPU proficiency.
  • Embryo grading and cryopreservation.
  • Ultrasound reproductive diagnostics.
  • Laboratory management and sterile technique.

Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership and training ability.
  • Excellent documentation and data analysis skills.
  • Ability to work in remote farm environments.

4. Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Conception rate (AI): **60–75%** depending on season.
  • Embryo yield per donor: **8–20 embryos** (breed dependent).
  • IVF embryo development rate: **30–50%**.
  • Lambing percentage improvement year‑on‑year.
  • Reduction in reproductive disorders.
  • Staff competency improvement.

5. Tools & Equipment Managed

7. Compensation Structure

  • Base salary (market range in KSA: **12,000 – 25,000 SAR/month** depending on expertise).
  • Performance bonuses based on conception and embryo success rates.

  • Pay: QAR15,000.00 - QAR20,000.00 per month
