The Lead Engineer (Mobile) defines mobile architecture, leads execution, and delivers applications across iOS and Android.
Responsibilities
- Lead architecture, design, development, and evolution of large-scale consumer-facing mobile applications.
- Define mobile engineering standards, architectural principles, reusable patterns, and best practices.
- Provide technical direction for React Native solutions across iOS and Android.
- Guide lifecycle management, release readiness, store distribution, and production support.
- Define security and privacy standards for storage, authentication, data protection, and third-party SDKs.
- Partner with product, design, architecture, quality engineering, and platform teams.
- Drive patterns for state management, APIs, offline capability, caching, error handling, and performance.
- Lead integrations with commerce, content, analytics, and third-party platforms.
- Ensure WCAG accessibility and help evolve reusable mobile design systems.
- Support experimentation, feature flags, A/B testing, and data-driven consumer-journey optimization.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with significant mobile application development expertise.
- 3+ years leading a technical capability, project, or engineering team.
- Strong hands-on React Native and modern TypeScript/JavaScript expertise.
- Deep understanding of iOS and Android fundamentals and mobile application lifecycles.
- Experience with mobile build, signing, release, distribution, and application store processes.
- Expertise in mobile system design, application architecture, and engineering patterns.
- Experience with state management, API integration, caching, offline-first, and synchronization patterns.
- Experience integrating native iOS and Android modules into React Native applications.
- Experience optimizing startup, rendering, memory, network efficiency, and responsiveness.
- Knowledge of WCAG, mobile accessibility, and inclusive experience engineering.
- Experience with experimentation platforms, feature flags, and A/B testing.
- Ability to make architectural decisions, influence technical direction, and mentor engineers.
Additional Skills
- Understanding of design systems, reusable component libraries, and mobile UX engineering principles.
- Experience using coding agents, LLMs, or AI-assisted engineering tools to improve delivery and productivity.
- Experience in eCommerce, retail, or consumer digital products is strongly preferred.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, technical leadership, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.
