Role overview
Design, develop, and deliver significant components of engineering solutions to accomplish business goals.
Support data engineering solutions across software development, infrastructure, integration, testing, and production support.
Assist more junior team members and control their work where applicable.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and review source code and infrastructure or application configurations against detailed software requirements.
- Lead Level 3 support for Hadoop compute and storage, Spark configurations and security, data workflows, and infrastructure as code.
- Drive continuous improvement on big data applications in production and non-production environments.
- Debug production incidents, fix defects, and provide support to Level 2 teams.
- Conduct code reviews under the four-eyes principle and contribute to unit and integration testing.
- Implement architectural changes defined by architects and contribute to problem and root cause analysis.
- Integrate software components according to the integration strategy and resolve test findings.
- Record code changes in Change Items and develop deployment routines where applicable.
- Provide release deployments in non-production management-controlled environments.
- Support software training materials, user guides, and deployment instructions.
- Maintain application changes according to release management processes.
- Identify dependencies, integration verification needs, and technical improvements related to scalability, reliability, availability, and performance.
General requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent, with a minor in Finance, Mathematics, or Engineering.
- Strong analytical skills and proficient communication skills.
- Fluent written and verbal English.
- Ability to work in virtual teams and matrixed organizations.
- Ability to design and write code against business requirements and contribute to QA strategy and architecture decisions.
- Knowledge of IT delivery and architecture, including data modelling and data analysis.
- Relevant financial services experience.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and maintain delivery focus.
- Ability to balance business demands and IT fulfilment through standardization, risk reduction, and increased IT flexibility.
- Ability to share information and transfer knowledge to team members.
Technical skills
- Desirable technologies include Java or Scala, Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Airflow, Control-M, Composer, Python, Bash, Shell scripting, and cloud offerings.
- GCP is preferred among cloud offerings, with knowledge of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS also identified.
- Relevant tools and processes include HP ALM, Jira, ServiceNow, SDLC, and Agile processes.
- Use AI tools to enhance productivity and optimize workflows while applying critical judgment for responsible and ethical use.
