Lead Data Platform and Engineering as an individual contributor with informal mentoring responsibility and no people-management remit.
Provide cross-team architectural direction, technical discovery, and strategic partnership to product and engineering leadership.
Responsibilities
- Provide architectural direction across platform domains owned by different Senior Data Engineers.
- Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, CI/CD, security, and data governance.
- Oversee data democratisation and platform modernisation initiatives.
- Mentor Senior and Mid-level engineers on complex cross-domain problems.
- Represent the function in architecture and technical forums.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-augmented engineering opportunities.
- Resolve ambiguous, high-impact problems crossing domain or ownership boundaries.
What we are looking for
- Proven experience at Senior Data Engineer level or above with end-to-end ownership of significant platform domains.
- Deep expertise across Snowflake, dbt Cloud, Python, RabbitMQ, Postgres, and AWS.
- A track record of architectural decisions adopted beyond an immediate team or domain.
- Experience running structured technical discovery and communicating outcomes clearly.
- Strong stakeholder management and partnership skills with limited oversight.
- Ability to mentor and uplift engineers through technical credibility.
- Curiosity about emerging tools balanced with rigorous evaluation before adoption.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
