About the Role
Backbase is seeking a Technical Director to serve as technology leader for strategic client accounts, owning technical success and quality of solution delivery. The role involves driving technical strategy, partnering with delivery and sales leaders, and acting as trusted advisor to client executives.

- Take full technical ownership of client accounts, acting as technology leader across all workstreams
- Accountable for technical success from pre sales through implementation, production readiness and post go live evolution
- Define and drive clients' technical strategy
- Become internal advocate of the client and bring voice of customer into Backbase organization
- Identify opportunities for better product adoption and provide guidance on best practices
- Collaborate with Technical Support, Product Engineering, and Project Implementation teams
- Partner with Delivery leaders to create delivery plans
- Ensure technical quality and compliance with platform best practices across all squads
- Act as technical face of Backbase towards client's senior stakeholders
- Serve as role model by being hands on when needed, unblocking technical issues
Requirements
- Overall experience of 10+ years and 5 years of management experience with solid technical background
- Experience in software and systems architecture
- Led enterprise grade software delivery, preferably in financial services or regulated industries
- Experience with Java, Spring, Maven, Gradle, Angular, Kotlin, Cloud Deployments, Docker, Kubernetes, Swift
- Deep understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, Observability and SRE practices
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- Fluent in English

The Job in Short
- As a Technical Director, you are the technology leader of a strategic client account or a portfolio of accounts with end to end ownership of the technical success and quality of our solution delivery.
- You work in close partnership with Delivery and Sales Leaders, ensuring that our clients not only go live successfully, but continue to thrive and scale with confidence.
- You have the technical breadth and depth to drive solution designs with architects, partner closely with engineering leaders and lead from the front when needed during complex technical challenges or critical incidents.
- You set the tone for engineering excellence, while ensuring the right technical team structures and accountabilities are in place to deliver at scale.
- Throughout the client journey, you are the primary technical contact and trusted advisor, seamlessly navigating between technical deep dives and high stakes conversations with CIOs and executives.
Meet the job
- Take full technical ownership of the client accounts, acting as the technology leader across all workstreams.
- Accountable for the technical success of the account from pre sales through implementation, production readiness and post go live evolution.
- Use your technical and product expertise to define and drive our clients’ technical strategy.
- Become an internal advocate of the client and bring the voice of the customer into the rest of the Backbase organization
- You identify opportunities for the customer to have better product adoption, provide guidance on best practices for custom components, and help the client align their requirements with our R&D roadmap
- Collaborate closely with the Technical Support, Product Engineering, and Project Implementation teams at Backbase to ensure successful implementations of the Backbase product.
- Partner with Delivery leaders to create delivery plans that balance time to market and quality needs.
- Ensure technical quality and compliance with platform best practices across all squads, raising the bar for engineering practices and delivery standards. You guide and influence Engineering leaders to achieve this.
- Act as the technical face of Backbase towards the client’s senior stakeholders, from engineering teams to CIO level conversations.
- Serve as a role model by being hands on when needed unblocking technical issues, supporting squads, and ensuring progress. You lead Architecture Review Boards, review solution designs and govern decisions.
How about you
- Overall experience of 10+ years and 5 years of management experience with solid technical background, including experience in software and systems architecture;
- You have led enterprise grade software delivery, preferably in financial services or regulated industries;
- You have experience with most of our technology stack: Java, Spring, Maven, Gradle, Angular, Kotlin, Cloud Deployments, Docker, Kubernetes (on prem, cloud) and Swift. Having a cloud certification (e.g. Azure Certified Solutions Architect) is a plus;
- You thrive in high stakes environments, leading from the front during escalations and aligning cross functional teams under pressure.
- You have a deep understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, Observability and SRE practices and you ensure operational excellence is part of delivery.
- You have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, equally comfortable with engineering teams and CXOs.
- You are passionate about building strong engineering cultures, mentoring teams, and setting a high bar for engineering excellence.
- You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- You are fluent in English
