Technical Designer - Fusion 360

About The Role

Key Responsibilities

• Design manufacturing fixtures, jigs, and tooling in Fusion 360 (parts, assemblies, drawings).
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles from the first sketch — not as an afterthought.
• Perform structural, static, and modal analysis (FEA) on critical components; iterate based on results.
• Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOM), including hardware, raw stock, and outsourced items.
• Produce manufacturing-ready 2D drawings with correct GD&T, tolerances, surface finishes, and notes.
• Build cost estimates: material, machining time, finishing, hardware, and assembly labor.
• Collaborate with machinists, assemblers, and procurement to close the loop between design intent and shop-floor reality.
• Manage revisions, ECOs, and version control across projects.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of mechanical design experience using Fusion 360 (parametric modeling, assemblies, drawings).
• Demonstrated experience designing fixtures, jigs, or production tooling.
• Strong DFM mindset — fluent in machining, sheet metal, weldments, and fastening best practices.
• Hands-on experience with Fusion 360 Simulation (static stress, modal, or equivalent FEA tools).
• Proficient with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Ability to build a complete BOM and a defensible cost estimate from a finished design.
• Clear technical communication in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Fusion 360 CAM or another CAM package.
• Familiarity with aerospace, automotive, or precision tooling environments.
• Exposure to PDM/PLM systems and formal ECO processes.
• Working knowledge of additive manufacturing and 3D scanning workflows.
