Role overview
The Computer Systems Administrator maintains the smooth operation of multi-user computer systems and coordinates with network administrators.
The role supports information technology equipment and software, system accounts, performance, updates, configurations, purchasing recommendations, installation, and backup recovery.
The position interacts with users and evaluates vendor products.
Systems administration support
- Participate in daily briefings with end users and provide system status updates.
- Provide onsite systems administration support to end users and assist end-user engineers.
- Perform routine, emergency, test, and exercise administration tasks according to technical manuals, operating instructions, and checklists.
- Create, manage, and delete user and group accounts, profiles, and policies.
- Provide on-the-job training and one-on-one assistance on the systems.
Monitoring and incident support
- Monitor mission system operational performance and link status to detect issues that could disrupt services.
- Collect application, system, and security logs following unexpected service disruptions and provide data for deficiency resolution and post-event forensics.
