Primary Responsibilities
- Manages and oversees all daily operations including the supervision of personnel.
- Assists with and troubleshoots production issues, safety, environmental and anything else that impacts the smooth operation of the Shop.
- Ensures that manufacturing schedules are met through the allocation of manpower, space, and machinery.
- Works with maintenance department, PMs of equipment and others to prioritize equipment repair to minimize the impact to jobs and worker health and safety.
- Is the first resource in settling disputes or answering questions related to schedule or job operation.
- Works with tool room attendant to monitor consumables and tool status.
- Works with welding committee to review applicants, to provide and monitor procedures and to create educational opportunities for shop personnel.
- Communicates with QC manager at appropriate times to schedule quality control inspections or testing per project mandated procedures.
- Monitors floor production to ensure that shop employees are following correct procedures and are staying "on-task".
- Reviews shop employee’s performance at least twice per year and makes recommendations as to wage rates or bonus levels. Performs face to face evaluation of employees to apprise them of their current performance level and improvement goals. Seeks feedback for overall improvement and employee opinion on project status.
- Communicates status to project managers at the Weekly Shop meeting. Keeps them informed of major status changes that would require their immediate attention. Gives project manager feedback as to conditions that will have an impact on the scheduling of their jobs.
- Is knowledgeable of machinery and shop capabilities in all buildings so that s/he can efficiently utilize our full capacity.
- Referring to their own familiarity with fabrication processes, metal alloys and properties, relates that knowledge to project personnel to assist them in creating work that can run through the shop efficiently.
- With the understanding of blueprints and part layouts ("stretch-outs"), works with detailers or project managers to ensure accuracy of part dimensions and requirements.
- Reconciles daily labor hours on all projects for compilation by M2M (ERP system) labor reporting.
- Looks for ways to increase overall shop efficiency.
- Assists project managers as needed.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Maintains the confidentiality of customer and CAID Industries proprietary information.
- Maintains good housekeeping practices around the shop.
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong background in fabrication, equipment, and techniques
- Ability to pass a 2/3G open root GMAW/FCAW certification.
- 10 years’ fabrication experience or equivalent attributes or abilities as approved by upper management.
- Must have effective communication skills including communicating Layoffs, terminations, and disciplinary action
- Must be able to pass an ITAR-grade background check.
- Ability to maintain total confidentiality.
- Understands value of time and materials.
- Willingness to enforce & implement Company Mandates
- Effective problem-solving skills
- Must be able and flexible to work and make effective decisions in a changing environment where details aren’t always available.
- Must be able to motivate, inspire and compel people to do their best.
Ehs Responsibilities
- Ensure that all Safety, Environmental and PPE policies are followed.
- Monitor and enforce safety practices.
- Ensure employees utilize proper PPE.
- Conduct Safety Talks (at least 2X per month)
- Job hazard assessment as needed.
• Shop Safety Audits
- Utilize Samuel Safety Portal to report accidents, incidents, hazard recognitions and Safety Contacts in a timely manner and conduct follow-up as required.
- Ensure that safety training for all team members is up to date
Physical Requirements
- Lifting to 50lbs
- Handling and moving objects- Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
- Must be able to stand, squat, bend, crawl, reach.
- Must be able to climb ladders or make use of a lift.
Work Environment
Manufacturing environment: May be exposed to loud noises, changing temperatures, machinery with moving parts, and exotic materials.
Job May require handling or moving of hazardous waste.
Itar Responsibilities
- Adhere to and abide by all ITAR-specific job standards and training. Protect and properly safeguard ITAR-sensitive information and work product; ensure dissemination or disclosure of and access to “protected data” occurs only with those trained and approved for exposure to ITAR content.
- IMMEDIATELY notify Supervisor/Manager, Human Resources, Legal (email: compliance@samuel.com) or the Samuel Ethics Alert Hotline of known or suspected unauthorized disclosure, release of or access to protected ITAR content.
