Substation Engineer Intern - Grid (Summer 2027)

Role Overview

Engineering Responsibilities

• Assist with engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
• Track and evaluate project activities, progress, and associated data for project reporting.
• Participate in power designs and prepare specifications for major electrical power equipment and related installation services.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Actively enrolled in a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree program.
• Strong preference for an engineering degree or coursework in coding, 3D modeling/design, and agentic AI.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without a computer.
• Strong organization, attention to detail, proactive behavior, independent work, issue prioritization, solution development, and deadline management.

Valued but Not Required

• Enrollment in a BS, MS, or equivalent degree from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program.
• Familiarity with designing or developing AI applications or agents.
• Demonstrated campus or community leadership experience.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA and prior related internship or co-op experience are strongly preferred.

AI and Automation

• Use data and modern tools such as automation and AI to take engineering problems from issue to solution.
• Automation and agentic AI may support calculations, technical document summaries, and design documentation with verification of results.
• Programming or scripting such as Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel is valued but not required.
• Additional computer science, artificial intelligence, or software engineering education is valued.

Compensation

• Compensation range is $18.00 to $30.00 per hour.
• Eligible positions may include a base salary or hourly rate, benefits, and a yearly discretionary bonus.
