This position has a target start date in summer 2027.
Work as a Substation Engineer Intern on a project team in the Grid business unit.
Projects may involve new designs or modifications and upgrades to transmission, substation, distribution, renewable, and battery energy storage systems.
Engineering Responsibilities
- Assist with engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
- Track and evaluate project activities, progress, and associated data for project reporting.
- Participate in power designs and prepare specifications for major electrical power equipment and related installation services.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Actively enrolled in a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree program.
- Strong preference for an engineering degree or coursework in coding, 3D modeling/design, and agentic AI.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Ability to visualize parts in 3D without a computer.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, proactive behavior, independent work, issue prioritization, solution development, and deadline management.
Valued but Not Required
- Enrollment in a BS, MS, or equivalent degree from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program.
- Familiarity with designing or developing AI applications or agents.
- Demonstrated campus or community leadership experience.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA and prior related internship or co-op experience are strongly preferred.
AI and Automation
- Use data and modern tools such as automation and AI to take engineering problems from issue to solution.
- Automation and agentic AI may support calculations, technical document summaries, and design documentation with verification of results.
- Programming or scripting such as Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel is valued but not required.
- Additional computer science, artificial intelligence, or software engineering education is valued.
Compensation
- Compensation range is $18.00 to $30.00 per hour.
- Eligible positions may include a base salary or hourly rate, benefits, and a yearly discretionary bonus.
