Student Worker: Library Assistant

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to

• 1. Working at the circulation desk: checking in and checking out books. Students should develop a basic understanding of the circulation system and be able to answer basic circulation questions. 2. Shelving books and periodicals. Students should develop a basic knowledge of how to shelve books using the Library of Congress classification system. 3. Answering the telephone, which entails answering basic questions concerning the library, circulation issues, and other basic customer service issues; or knowing to whom the phone call can be forwarded? 4. Teaching library users how to use the online catalog. 5. Ability to open and close the library following outlined procedures. 6. Flexibility in covering shifts in case of illness or emergency. 7. Other duties as assigned by the Public Services Librarian or the Director of the Library. 8. Must be willing and able to work Saturdays and Sundays and in the summer months.
