Structural Inspector (Infrastructure & Bridges)

Job description

Bridge inspections

• Inspect pile foundations, pile caps, reinforcement, formwork, concrete pours, and associated integrity and load testing.
• Inspect precast girders during fabrication, transportation, and erection, including post-tensioning works.
• Verify bearing installation, deck construction, parapets, crash barriers, waterproofing, expansion joints, drainage, and deck furniture.

Tunnel inspections

• Inspect cut-and-cover excavation, diaphragm and secant pile walls, underpinning, TBM operations, segment geometry, and annular grouting.
• Inspect shotcrete, rock bolts, lattice girders, steel ribs, ground movement, convergence, and instrumentation data.
• Inspect secondary lining, concrete, waterproofing membranes, construction joints, water stops, cross passages, shafts, and emergency exits.

Quality and testing

• Review inspection requests and witness pre-pour checks, concrete pours, acceptance testing, non-destructive testing, and concrete strength testing.
• Verify survey setting-out, levels, alignment, camber, tunnel geometry, and tolerances against IFC drawings.
• Raise non-conformance and site observation reports and track close-out actions.
• Review contractor materials, mill certificates, and batch records against approved submittals.

HSE and coordination

• Enforce HSE requirements for heavy lifts, post-tensioning, working at height, confined spaces, gas monitoring, and tunnel evacuation.
• Stop unsafe activities and escalate issues to the Structural Engineer or ARE.
• Coordinate with RTA, Dubai Municipality, DEWA, and other authorities during joint inspections and approvals.

Reporting and records

• Maintain daily inspection records, photographic logs, and as-built documentation through Aconex or ProjectWise.
• Prepare daily and weekly reports and support snagging, de-snagging, taking-over, and defects-liability inspections.

Required skills

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• At least eight years of structural inspection experience on both bridge and tunnel projects.
• At least four years of UAE or GCC experience on RTA, metro, or comparable authority projects.
• Strong technical reading of structural, shop, post-tensioning, segmental lining, and waterproofing drawings.
• Familiarity with TBM operations, ring build geometry, and shotcrete or SCL methodologies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and working knowledge of an AutoCAD viewer.
• Strong reporting, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Willingness and physical ability to work underground, in confined spaces, on rotating shifts, and during night works.
• RTA or Dubai Municipality Inspector Engineer approval is highly preferred; a UAE driving license is preferred.
