Position Overview

The Structural Engineering Intern works collaboratively under the supervision of senior engineers.

The intern performs routine engineering assignments using basic engineering principles and learns how to assemble project plan sets.

LBYD provides civil and structural engineering services for commercial and industrial projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform calculations and prepare schematics, bills of materials, and engineering specifications.
Update CAD or Revit design drawings and document project communications.
Instruct drafters on converting designs into completed structural drawings.
Assist with evaluations, reports, analyses, and designs for existing and new facilities.
Prepare permit applications and assist with calculations and report writing.
Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and requests for information.
Research governing criteria, codes, guides, and best practices.
Work under project managers, senior designers, and other senior team members.
Use assigned engineering and IT systems and perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Working toward a bachelor's degree in structural, civil, or electrical engineering, or a related undergraduate degree.
Ability to apply basic engineering principles to assigned project tasks.
Ability to listen, follow directions, think critically, communicate well, and adapt to change.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic understanding of Revit.
Proficient use of engineering design software.
Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and methods.
Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is generally conducted indoors in an office setting with occasional travel to project sites.
The intern may serve as a Field Engineer during construction.
The role primarily involves sitting, with occasional walking or standing, and exerting up to 10 pounds of force.
