The Structural Engineer will perform independent structural design and work interdependently within a multi-disciplinary design team.

Design structures – ground-up, industrial buildings/facilities, commercial buildings, and healthcare facilities.
Develop strong knowledge and utilize the engineering software used by Vestal (see list below) for the development of design packages.
Maintain strong knowledge of the latest codes and standards.
Assign/determine all appropriate loads to structures based on project and code requirements.
Drive projects toward efficient and cost-effective designs.
Perform structural analysis on steel and concrete structural systems.
Design and/or analyze structural systems for local seismic requirements where applicable. Research seismic requirements for specific locations.
Learn and implement Lean design principles.
Maintain files of calculations and structural documentation on projects where assigned as structural engineer.
Interface directly with project Lead CAD/Designers, engineers, and Project Managers to develop and coordinate structural system general arrangements and system details.
Lead in design and construction using all structural materials and systems.
Review of contractors’ submittals and response to Requests for Information (RFIs) during construction.
Site visits for pre-design field investigations and/or construction observations as required.
Develop probable construction cost.
Follow construction safety guidelines.
Comply with Company’s Quality Control and Project Management procedures.
Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization’s goals.

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and able to operate a computer and other office equipment.
Must be able to move about the office to access office equipment and other office buildings within the Vestal office complex.
This position frequently communicates with others and must be able to exchange accurate information.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :

Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering is required.
At least 3 years of experience in Building Engineering or Construction is required.
Familiarity with REVIT (a plus).
Familiarity with Lean Design Practices is preferred.
Ability to lead and deliver the project from inception to construction documents with minimal supervision.
