Internship Overview

AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineer Intern for its Arlington, Virginia office.

The internship provides hands-on skills, mentoring, and a broad learning experience that supports the transition from student to professional.

The position is expected to begin in May 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Perform portions of structural assignments under the mentorship of an experienced structural engineer.
  • Prepare designs and calculations for structural steel, reinforced concrete, and masonry.
  • Apply standard engineering techniques to structural building systems using hand calculations and engineering software.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to maintain design continuity.
  • Support construction administration through shop drawing reviews and RFI response preparation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Pursue a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering with a Structures concentration, or a related engineering field.
  • Complete at least three years of study.
  • Recent bachelor’s graduates may qualify if they were enrolled in the most recent term and plan to continue to a related master’s degree.
  • US citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or similar industry software.
  • Familiarity with RAM Structural Systems, ETABS, Enercalc, or similar structural software.
  • Strong time management, organization, prioritization, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Comfort working in a high-energy environment with frequent deadlines.

Workplace and Additional Information

  • The position requires a hybrid schedule with scheduled in-office work in Arlington, Virginia.
  • Relocation assistance and current or future US employment-authorization sponsorship are not available.
  • New hires must attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office.
