Storage SRE Overview
Apple Cloud storage SRE teams build and operate distributed storage systems for critical services across geographically dispersed data centers.
The Object Storage SRE team supports services used by hundreds of millions of users.
The role requires infrastructure, storage, data analysis, programming, Linux internals, and teamwork expertise.
Role Responsibilities
- Own projects and deliverables from understanding priorities through solution design, stakeholder alignment, and timely delivery.
- Provide technical feedback to colleagues and help drive technical standards across a distributed team.
- Operate an on-call rotation that includes weekends, handling alerts and escalations.
- Maintain high availability and functionality for provided services.
- Use and improve tools for configuration management, provisioning, development and deployment, logging, and monitoring.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience building, operating, and scaling distributed storage systems in private, public, or hybrid cloud environments.
- Ability to design, author, understand, and release code in Go, Java, Python, or Rust, with Go preferred.
- Good understanding of block, object, and file storage solutions in Linux, including LVM, XFS, ext4, S3, Ceph, Gluster, and NFS.
