JOB SUMMARY
The Staff Workforce Engineer is the senior individual contributor within the Workforce Engineering lane, setting engineering direction and technical standards for the Digital Workforce tool portfolio. Operating with high autonomy, the Staff Workforce Engineer designs deployment strategies that span multiple tools, architects digital employee experience and AI assistant integrations at enterprise scale, and mentors Workforce Engineers through the most complex architecture and evaluation decisions. This role is a technical multiplier for the lane — a recognized subject matter expert whose judgment shapes how First Tech evaluates, integrates, and secures the tools it puts in employees’ hands.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Design deployment strategies that span multiple tools and set engineering standards for the Digital Workforce tool portfolio; manage moderate-complexity projects and act autonomously on most technical decisions.
Architect data pipelines and cross-system integrations spanning digital employee experience platforms, IT service management, and endpoint tooling; own integration strategy as the lane’s recognized subject matter expert.
Architect Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft 365 enablement at enterprise scale, including governance and access-control design, drawing on expert-level administration knowledge of the AI assistant and Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
Improve and scale the team’s technical evaluation standards and reference library for AI tools, taking on the most complex evaluation problems and weighing competing technical factors with full autonomy.
Design technical evaluation frameworks for AI use cases entering the Digital Workforce pipeline; mentor Workforce Engineers through complex architecture and readiness decisions.
Lead threat modeling for the Digital Workforce tool portfolio and partner with Information Security, Risk, and Vendor Management to ensure every deployment meets First Tech’s security and compliance requirements.
Coordinate the technical activities of other Workforce Engineers on cross-tool initiatives, providing architectural guidance without formal people-management authority.
Partner with the Workforce Experience and Workforce Enablement lanes at key evaluation and launch checkpoints, translating complex technical tradeoffs into terms that inform employee-need validation and launch readiness.
Determines methods and procedures on new assignments; may coordinate the activities of other team members. Works highly independently, and coaches and delegates to others.
Influences engineering practice and standards within the lane and, at times, across the Digital Workforce function; decisions carry short- to medium-term impact on the direction of the tool portfolio.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 6–8 years of relevant experience, with deep expertise in at least two Digital Workforce–relevant domains (digital employee experience, Microsoft 365, automation, or security).
- Deep, hands-on expertise in at least two of the following: digital employee experience platform architecture, the Microsoft 365 and Copilot ecosystem, automation and scripting, or security and compliance integration.
- Demonstrated ability to design cross-system architecture and set technical standards adopted by other engineers, without formal people-management authority.
- Advanced experience with enterprise digital employee experience platforms (for example, Nexthink), including telemetry pipeline design and integration with IT service management and endpoint toolchains.
- Expert-level Microsoft 365 and Copilot administration knowledge, including enterprise governance and access-control design.
- Strong track record partnering with Information Security, Vendor Management, and cross-functional stakeholders on complex, ambiguous technical evaluations.
- Effective mentor to less-senior engineers on architecture and evaluation decisions; comfortable operating as an informal technical lead.
