The Staff Software Engineer will work in the InLife Crew’s Core Banking Squad at the centre of digital home lending.
The role shapes systems for repayments, redraw, account servicing, reliability and control across the loan lifecycle.
The position leads strategy, architecture, design and delivery while remaining hands-on with modern engineering technologies.
Team and Platform
The Unloan InLife Crew owns the home lending platform supporting new lending, refinancing, in-life servicing and day-to-day loan management.
The team solves complex domain-heavy problems, processes high-volume transactions and integrates with the broader Commonwealth Bank ecosystem.
Its systems require precision, resilience and performance because they support repayments, rate changes, redraws and reliable customer outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship high-quality digital banking products end-to-end using TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, REST APIs and modern web technologies.
- Own the full engineering lifecycle from ideation through production operations in a you-build-it, you-run-it environment.
- Design and scale resilient distributed systems with observability, reliability and operational control.
- Modernise legacy platforms into API-first, cloud-native and event-driven architectures.
- Apply AI and automation responsibly with consideration for security, privacy and regulatory constraints.
- Lead cross-team technical initiatives, shape architecture strategy and deliver clarity at scale.
- Mentor engineers, set high technical standards and foster continuous learning and disciplined delivery.
What We’re Looking For
- Deep hands-on engineering expertise across TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, REST APIs and modern web technologies.
- Strong back-end foundations with full-stack capability and ownership through production operations.
- Experience with resilient distributed systems, complex financial workflows, high-volume transactions, observability and reliability.
- Banking, lending or financial-platform experience, with relevance to digital home lending.
- Ability to lead modernisation and architecture initiatives across complex technical environments.
- Ability to apply AI and automation pragmatically while balancing security, privacy, compliance and profitability.
- Experience connecting engineering decisions to customer and business outcomes.
- Experience mentoring engineers and setting high technical standards.
Technology Skills
- Back-end technologies include Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL and REST APIs.
- AI and automation technologies include generative AI, LLMs, agentic AI, multi-agent systems and MCP.
- AI tooling includes GitHub Copilot, Claude and Opencode.
- Architecture technologies include event-driven systems, distributed systems, modern JavaScript architecture and AI application design.
- Cloud and infrastructure technologies include AWS, Azure and Docker.
- CI/CD and DevOps technologies include Git, GitHub Actions and SonarQube.
- Testing and quality technologies include Jest, Playwright and Storybook.
- Observability technologies include Observe and Application Insights.
- Front-end technologies include React Native and Next.js.
