About the Role
The Staff Software Engineer reports to the Platform Engineering Manager within Infrastructure.
The role leads product strategy and technical execution for Crunchyroll's Internal Developer Portal.
The engineer owns full-stack development, including scalable backend services and intuitive UI components.
The platform is intended to improve developer productivity, software ownership, security, robustness, and reliability.
Core Areas of Responsibility
- Own the year-over-year technical strategy and product roadmap for the Internal Developer Portal.
- Architect, build, and maintain full-stack features using modern frontend technologies and scalable backend systems.
- Lead UI workflows for service creation, dependency mapping, and operational dashboarding.
- Implement measurement frameworks for usage metrics and platform health.
- Drive adoption of platform standards with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Participate in on-call rotations and reduce operational toil.
- Coordinate across time zones to resolve dependencies and ensure smooth engineering hand-offs.
About You
- Candidates should have 12+ years of professional experience in high-scale production environments.
- The role requires full-stack expertise spanning TypeScript and backend languages such as Go or Python.
- Candidates should be comfortable with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL and non-relational databases such as DynamoDB.
- The role requires expertise in OIDC, RBAC, security protocols, and privacy principles such as GDPR.
- Candidates should guide teams through operational best practices, knowledge sharing, and cross-functional collaboration.
- The role requires product-minded judgment when converting ambiguity into roadmaps and making build-versus-buy decisions.
Preferred Experience
- Deep expertise in building Internal Developer Portals or platform experiences is a plus.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as GHA and CodeDeploy and with GitOps practices is a plus.
Infrastructure Engineering Team
The Infrastructure Engineering team provides the foundation for Crunchyroll services and influences customer experience and engineering velocity.
The team focuses on developer enablement, self-service tools, automated infrastructure, and consistent delivery practices.
