Role overview
The Export team owns the systems that transform Canva designs into downloadable files at more than 50 million weekly downloads.
The Staff Software Engineer will shape the architecture, reliability, accessibility, and performance of this high-leverage export system.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction of the Chromium-based export pipeline and the architecture that keeps it reliable.
- Solve rendering upgrade breakages, race conditions, and production incidents caused by upstream Chromium changes.
- Build monitoring and testing that detects Chromium regressions before users encounter them.
- Design systems that remain robust as Chromium output structures change.
- Set direction for PDF/UA and WCAG accessibility and compliance across Enterprise exports.
- Lead export reliability and performance across format optimization, distributed systems, and high-volume failure modes.
- Mentor engineers through design review, pairing, debugging, and documentation.
- Work across the Editing Platform group so new editor features remain reliable at download.
Qualifications
- Have deep experience with Chromium or another browser rendering engine, including work inside the engine.
- Work comfortably in C++ within a large third-party codebase.
