Provide senior technical leadership for the backend systems supporting Canva's experimentation programme.

Help evolve shared experimentation capabilities used by engineers, data scientists, and product teams.

The role sits within Rollout Insights, the subgroup responsible for experimentation at Canva.

Develop platform capabilities for experiment setup, user targeting, variants, measurement, and progressive rollout.
Improve experimentation safety by reinforcing good practices, surfacing signals faster, and monitoring guardrails.
Take ownership of significant technical problems and help determine the platform's future direction.
Collaborate with senior technical leaders and teams across engineering and data science.
Investigate AI-assisted automation for experimentation analysis.

Build backend systems or platforms that other engineers depend on.
Work deeply with experimentation, A/B testing, feature management, or progressive rollout at scale.
Form technical direction for ambiguous engineering problems and help other engineers reach outcomes.
Design reliable backend and distributed systems while reasoning about scalability, availability, consistency, and failure modes.
Understand how experimentation data is generated, moved, and consumed.
Understand experiment assignment, targeting, variants, feature flags, metrics, guardrails, and progressive rollout.
Java is the primary language, but it is useful rather than a hard requirement.

Directly design or build experimentation, A/B testing, feature-management, or rollout infrastructure.
Have experience spanning software engineering and data science, data engineering, or analytics engineering.
Build feature-flagging, user-targeting, progressive-rollout, or automated-guardrail systems.
Use statistical intuition to work closely with data scientists.

Rollout Insights builds shared experimentation capabilities used across Canva.

Engineers configure and launch experiments, data scientists analyze impact, and product teams use insights to make rollout decisions.

The team collaborates broadly across Canva's engineering and data science organisations.
