Primary Function of Position
Lead the architecture and implementation of mixed-criticality embedded virtualization for a next-generation surgical robotic system.
Define how safety-critical, real-time, and non-critical software can safely share hardware.
Own partitioning architecture, hypervisor configuration, and platform software tuning for freedom from interference.
Essential Job Duties
- Define virtualization safety architecture with spatial and temporal isolation between safety-critical and non-safety-critical applications.
- Prototype and evaluate Xen and QNX hypervisors using safety, determinism, certifiability, and platform fit criteria.
- Own hypervisor configuration and integration while addressing platform limitations and vendor support gaps.
- Implement deterministic inter-VM communication and device virtualization using virtio, shared memory, and device passthrough.
- Plan analysis and verification for freedom from interference, deterministic timing, and safe failure behavior.
- Lead failure modes and effects analysis and define design mitigations, fault containment, recovery, and degraded behaviors.
- Build observability for guest and hypervisor health, resource utilization, latency, jitter, and other system signals.
- Lead cross-functional projects, influence technical direction, and coach colleagues.
