Role overview
Production Engineering combines software engineering with difficult reliability problems in Canva's infrastructure.
The role embeds senior software engineering expertise in high-risk technical areas to improve production systems before reliability problems compound.
Responsibilities
- Own a long-term engagement area involving core data stores, resource utilization, or distributed systems challenges at scale.
- Write and improve production software rather than focusing primarily on process or alert operations.
- Instrument, refactor, and rebuild components that cause problems at scale.
- Collaborate with and mentor fellow production engineers and partner teams.
- Improve incidents, recovery speed, severity, latency, and customer experience outcomes.
- Seed reusable platform capabilities when recurring system patterns require shared solutions.
- Build trusted relationships with embedded teams and help them ship with more confidence and less toil.
Experience requirements
- Own reliability work within large-scale distributed systems and write fixes for production failures.
- Work as an engineer embedded in or closely partnered with a product or feature team.
- Build production-scale systems in Java, Go, Rust, C++, or a comparable systems language.
