Role Overview
Canva is hiring a Staff Front-End Engineer for its Design System Evolution team.
The role focuses on evolving a portable component library that renders through React DOM on web and React Native on mobile.
The platform will support prominent Canva surfaces and more than 800 engineers.
What You Would Do
- Own the portable UI platform and ship shared React components across web and React Native.
- Abstract cross-platform complexity into the design system layer.
- Set standards for component construction, distribution, consumption, and scale.
- Mentor engineers through design and code reviews, team decisions, and daily work.
- Partner with product teams to understand needs, sequence work, and define platform scope.
- Lead strategic technical direction for the Design System Evolution team and wider design system.
- Evolve the design system for AI-assisted workflows and an AI-native environment.
- Shape frontend engineering through best practices, methodologies, and technical influence.
Potential Match
- Experience developing or leading a design system and supporting platform stewardship.
- Deep knowledge of HTML, CSS, Web APIs, JavaScript or TypeScript, and React.
