Staff Counselor (Type B Consultant)

Organization and context

Schedule

• The position is expected to operate on a schedule of two working days per week.

Responsibilities

• Provide confidential individual and group counseling and support to staff and dependents in person and online.
• Support staff after critical incidents and emergencies and coordinate referrals to appropriate mental health providers.
• Deliver staff training on stress management, emotional processing, critical incidents, wellbeing, and resilience.
• Train managers and heads of units and support preventative staff wellbeing initiatives.
• Participate in Staff Welfare meetings, supervision, coordination activities, and team retreats.
• Address psychosocial risks and consult with managers on staff wellbeing and mental health.
• Follow UN staff counselor standards and ethics and complete professional reports and administrative duties.

Qualifications and experience

• A relevant master's degree with two years of experience, or a relevant university degree with four years of experience.
• Active professional license or certification, or registered membership in a legitimate relevant professional organization.
• At least four years of post-licensure, post-certification, or post-registration counseling experience.
• Experience with counseling and psychosocial interventions.
• International or humanitarian organization experience is preferred; UN, humanitarian, or Employee Assistance Programme experience is also preferred.
• Familiarity with humanitarian worker wellbeing, diversity, communication, and professional writing.
• Fluency in English is required.

Professional standards

• Counselors must adhere to the professional standards of the United Nations Stress and Staff Counsellors Group and the Code of Ethics for UN Staff Counsellors.
• Reports and other administrative work must be completed to a professional standard.

• IOM covers occupational accidents and illnesses under its Compensation Plan for the duration of the consultancy.
• Consultants are responsible for medical insurance related to non-occupational accidents or illnesses and must provide proof of coverage before starting.
