Sr Solutions Design Engineer, GES Operations Engineering

Role Overview

Key Job Responsibilities

• Own complex programmes with multiple concurrent projects across European and international fulfilment networks.
• Oversee project management, design services and external partner performance for automation initiatives.
• Lead complex design and engineering projects with minimal management oversight.
• Manage budgets, spend approvals, cost optimisation and resource allocation.
• Coordinate project managers, architects, consultants, contractors and subcontractors.
• Drive cross-functional process improvements across teams and geographies.
• Lead design evaluations, partner selection, contract negotiations and procurement.
• Build customer, supplier and partner relationships and lead negotiations.
• Recruit engineering talent and mentor Operations Engineers.
• Contribute to strategic planning and represent engineering in leadership forums.

Working Pattern

• Early project phases are primarily performed from an Amazon office or home, with periodic travel to sites.
• The role involves travel to multiple countries and may require up to 50% time on job travel.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience providing technical leadership for industrial engineering projects or programmes.
• Experience with programme management across planning, execution and project delivery.
• Fluent spoken, written and read English at C1 level or above.
• Strong technical background in automated or non-automated material handling equipment.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering, Architecture or a country equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration or an equivalent STEM field.
• Experience with Lean Management, Six Sigma or other operations engineering tools.
• Experience with one or more listed CAD technologies such as AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SolidWorks, CREO, BIM360, SketchUp or KeyShot.
• Experience in logistics, distribution or fulfilment processes.
• Experience with cold chains, refrigeration equipment or temperature-controlled environments.
• Additional language skills in French, German, Polish, Arabic, Portuguese, Turkish, Mandarin, Afrikaans or Zulu.
