Role Overview
Own the end-to-end CFD modeling strategy for complex mechanical systems across global data center infrastructure.
Serve as the technical authority for thermal performance and lead development of innovative cooling solutions.
CFD Modeling and Technical Leadership
- Define CFD approaches, validation methodologies, and scalable best practices for innovative data center designs.
- Lead internal CFD studies for data halls and electrical rooms under N-unit failure and N+1 full-load conditions.
- Perform transient thermal studies for concurrent power and unit failures, including time-to-recovery analysis.
- Own external CFD studies covering campus plants, site obstructions, thermal plume recirculation, and intake temperatures.
- Model air emissions and contaminant dispersion to quantify generator exhaust ingestion into building intakes.
- Propose and validate mitigation strategies and implement solutions in CFD models for verification.
- Manage external CFD consultants and review return briefs, model inputs, assumptions, and boundary conditions.
Mentorship and Team Development
- Mentor and guide junior engineers in CFD techniques, mechanical design best practices, and professional growth.
About the Team
The data center design engineering team includes architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and controls engineers.
The team designs secure, safe, efficient data centers and communicates technical decisions to organizational leadership.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience developing solutions and executing plans on complex projects.
- 10+ years of mechanical or HVAC design experience with significant internal and external CFD modeling experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Knowledge of regional building codes and regulations.
- Experience taking design concepts from exploration through deployment or mass production.
- Experience creating and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
- Proficiency with 6Sigma by Future Facilities, ANSYS Fluent/CFX, Cradle SC Stream, or HELYX.
