Position overview
Target's Product Engineering teams build technology that supports efficient, secure, and reliable retail operations.
The Senior Backend Engineer designs, develops, and approves end-to-end functionality for product lines, platforms, or infrastructure.
Core requirements
- At least 4 years of software design and development experience, including at least 3 years building scalable backend applications with Java.
- Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, Kotlin, and Micronaut is required.
- Experience with distributed systems, microservice architecture, and third-party or open-source frameworks is required.
- Exposure to non-relational databases such as MongoDB is required.
- A four-year degree or equivalent experience is required.
Role responsibilities
- Design, develop, and approve end-to-end product, platform, or infrastructure functionality.
- Optimize systems capacity, performance, and operational health.
- Coordinate with project teams, partners, and stakeholders.
- Deliver secure, scalable, repeatable, high-throughput, and low-latency solutions.
- Apply data standards, policies, and procedures while maintaining technical expertise.
