Role Overview
Butler Engineering is seeking Special Inspectors for passive fire protection work across its UAE and KSA teams.
The role focuses on site inspection and verification of passive fire protection systems against approved designs, tested systems, codes, standards, manufacturer requirements, and authority requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect firestopping, facade, perimeter fire containment, fireproofing, fire doors, and other passive fire protection systems.
- Verify installations against approved drawings, specifications, tested or listed systems, and manufacturer installation guidelines.
- Identify non-compliances, installation deficiencies, and deviations from approved systems.
- Prepare technically defensible inspection reports supported by appropriate site evidence.
- Review drawings, material submittals, method statements, and technical documentation.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, specialist installers, and project teams to close inspection observations.
- Support testing, commissioning, authority inspections, and project close-out activities where required.
- Perform inspections under ISO/IEC 17020 quality and inspection procedures.
Qualifications
- Relevant qualification in fire protection, mechanical, civil, architectural, building services engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Demonstrated site experience inspecting passive fire protection systems.
- Good understanding of firestopping, fire-rated construction, penetration seals, joints, curtain-wall perimeter fire containment, and related installation requirements.
- Familiarity with the UAE Fire & Life Safety Code, SBC, IBC, NFPA, and applicable tested or listed systems such as UL or equivalent.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, approved systems, and technical documentation.
- Strong observational, analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
- ISO/IEC 17020 inspection-environment experience or recognised passive fire protection inspection certification is an advantage.
- UAE project experience and familiarity with Civil Defence or authority requirements are preferred.
Workplace
- The role is full-time and on-site in Dubai, with positions supporting UAE and KSA teams.
