Role Overview
Mid-level software test engineering role focused on embedded systems and software validation.
The role supports electronic control systems deployed in the rail industry.
The engineer develops technical solutions, executes tests, and delivers high-quality test reports.
Responsibilities
- Review system and software requirements for testability.
- Develop test plans and test procedures with minimal guidance.
- Create, execute, and maintain test cases with complete requirements traceability.
- Perform hardware/software system and integration testing.
- Document results and produce comprehensive test reports.
- Communicate with peers, developers, and stakeholders.
- Assist with laboratory equipment setup, tracking, organization, and maintenance.
- Develop and maintain test automation solutions to improve coverage and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
- At least six years of experience in software testing, embedded systems, or a related field.
- Understanding of electronic control systems, microcontrollers, and hardware/software integration.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Hands-on experience testing and debugging software, firmware, and hardware-based systems.
- Experience developing automated test solutions with Python, C, and/or C++.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows and Linux.
- Experience with lifecycle management tools such as IBM ELM for traceability, test cases, and workflows.
- Understanding of Agile methodologies such as Scrum in embedded systems.

- Experience working with geographically distributed teams.
- Exposure to or interest in the rail and transportation industry.
Compensation
- The stated salary range is $79,100 to $112,800.
- Actual pay may vary based on skills, experience, education, business needs, market conditions, and work location.
- Benefits may include health, welfare, retirement, and an annual bonus if eligible.
